Price of canned goods to increase Print
Now would be a good time to stock up on canned foods. Arcelor-Mittal has announced that it will increase the price of tin-plate by about 70%. This means that the price of each can will rise by 50%. That will have a huge impact on the retail price of goods.

More expensive canned goods are expected to appear on the supermarket shelves from May.

Canned food is viewed as an affordable, nutritional food for lower-income groups. If abandoned due to non-affordability, there are negative implications throughout the chain up to the farmer who supplies the product.

A possible solution is for manufacturers to use plastic instead of tin.
