Subject: "Marriage breaks up over SANHA's 'halaal' ham-cheese"
Dear
Ms Reddy
Laudium
Sun
We
write to you as a follow up of the article published in 12/11/2010 issue
entitled ?Marriage Breaks up over SANHA?s ?halaal? ham-cheese?.
We
appreciate the spirit of fair play in that our rebuttal was published alongside
the allegations of the Majlis.
We
had mentioned our doubts on the veracity of the couple and their claims as we
had not heard from them bar the story exclusively by the Majlis.
We
confirm that to date we have not yet heard from them and are beginning to
wonder whether the ?phantom couple? is a fabrication of and
overworked mind.
We
appeal to you as an important medium of information to establish the
authenticity of the couple. Your failure to do this will give credence to those
that regard the religion of Islam as intolerant and extremist as well as
provide fuel for those that are proposing limitations to the freedom of the
press.
As
a matter of information we forward our most recent article on labeling. Click here
Kind
regards
Yours sincerely

We are most grateful for your publications, the Laudium and Lenasia Sun?s promise to air this story as it gives us the opportunity to respond to the ludicrous allegations. Thank You. A labeling error occurred when our Halaal logo was appended on a ham flavored cottage cheese. The ingredients itself did not obviously contain any Haraam components nor was it contaminated by any other ingredients of a Haraam nature as the entire premises had to be Halaal compliant for certification purposes. Notwithstanding this, the labelling was in breach of our contract whereby no products may carry our logo if it had a Haraam connotation e.g. Pork spice, rum and raisin ice cream, pea and ham soup etc. It is unthinkable to even contemplate that we would approve any products with such offensive connotation. We have explained this principle on numerous talk shows and in articles one of which we forward herewith for your perusal Click here to view . Unfortunately, it is the well known tactics of the extremist, Molvi AS Desai and his tabloid the Majlis?s malicious ongoing hate campaign to make unfounded allegations against SANHA and inflame the situation. This is no different and is a gross and evil misrepresentation to create the impression that pork itself was certified Halaal as opposed to an error of a synthetic flavouring. We are hoping that your publication shows it journalistic mettle and voraciousness by tracking down, interviewing and reporting on the Port Elizabeth couple whose marriage allegedly would not survive a labelling error on a tub of cheese. We have never been contacted by any such persons. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
