Vitamin C - Most high risk groups ? asthmatics, diabetics, smokers, pregnant women, babies and the elderly ? have been reported to have lower Vitamin C status and/or greater need. Individual requirements vary widely and an attempt should be made by each person to establish the dosage regimen best suited to his requirements.

Vitamin E - A study   of 617 nursing home patients published in the Journal of American Medical Association, showed that those who took a daily vitamin E supplement (200 IU) for one year were 20% less likely to catch a cold than those who didn?t.  Vitamin E is obtainable from dark green leafy vegetables, almonds and wheat germ.

Vitamin A - To optimise immune function, high doses of vitamin A (up to 50,000 IU) can be used for short-term (up to 2 weeks), even in children, to fight acute infections and viral disease.

Probiotics - Help prevent infections in the intestines. There is evidence that they might prevent colds as well.

Zinc  - The immune system depends on zinc to function properly.
