Subject: Retraction of Rainbow article - Tabloid newspapers
The
Editor,
We
object to the disingenuous manner in which your publication as a well - read
weekly newspaper together with Rainbow have shoddily and unjustly maligned
SANHA.
In
your comment column of 16/6/2011, Mr. Heath of Rainbow refers ?to the
letter published from SANHA which states ?Rainbow chickens? processed products
no longer Halaal?
Firstly,
SANHA had not submitted any letter whatsoever to yourselves for publication.
The information you published was presumably gleaned from our open source
notice (a copy of which is attached herewith). The notice clearly refers to the
withdrawal of the Halaal certification by SANHA and does not indicate that any
products are Haraam.
Secondly,
the headline was a fabrication of your design, false, misleading and a
disservice to your readers, Rainbow and ourselves leading to the libelous
remarks of misrepresentation made by Mr. Heath in your medium.
Thirdly
your failure to verify and clarify important information of this nature
concerning ourselves is a betrayal of simple journalistic principles and not in
keeping with your usual editorial discipline.
Fourthly,
the article also conveniently omitted our concluding statement where we
specifically reassured the customer that the status of fresh and frozen
products slaughtered at a separate halaal site remained unchanged.
In
light of the above submission, we feel justified in seeking your urgent
undertaking that the matter will be redressed with equal prominence in your
columns next week.
This
will go a long way in minimizing the damage to our name and clarifying the
libelous remarks made by Mr. Heath in complicity with yourselves.
We
await your response.
Yours sincerely
For South African National Halaal Authority
